2011年12月17日に、イギリスのNew College of the Humanitiesが、FTSE100社のCEOや財界トップ等の学歴を調査した“A case for the humanities: Report presenting a qualitative and quantitative snapshot of professional life in the UK”という報告書を公開している。

それによると、調査した800人のうち60％が芸術・人文学・社会科学といった広い意味での人文学を学んできた人であって、理工系（STEM）を学んだのはわずか15％に過ぎないことが明らかになったという。つまり、「人文学教育は個人の資質を豊かにするだけでなく、実際に利益ももたらすものである」（“A humanities education is deeply enriching for individuals. But it offers great practical benefit too”）という。

その他の調査結果として、以下のようなこと等が挙げられている。

・先述の数字60％のうちのさらに60％が、美術史学や歴史学、文学、言語学、哲学といって「コア」な人文学を学んでいる。

・芸術・人文学・社会科学のバックグラウンドをもつ最も高い割合の職業グループは下院議員（MP）で、65%であった。

・反対に、芸術・人文学・社会科学のバックグラウンドをもつ最も低い割合の職業グループは、ラッセル・グループの大学の学長であった。

なお、同日New College of the Humanitiesは、高等教育で人文学を学ぼうとする学生向けの情報ポータルサイトとして“Choose Humanities”というサイトを公開している。
